Vroubel, Mikhail

The pioneer of new art in Russia. After studying art and law at St Petersburg, from 1884-1889 he worked on the restoration of the 12th century frescoes in the Church of St Cyril in Kiev. Then Mikhail Vroubel moved to Moscow, where he designed stage sets. He influenced Kandinsky and Malevich. His best known art work is The Demon.
